The University of Limerick Students' Union provides services and representation for the students of the University of Limerick. Within the Students Union there are various officers who provide an advisory service to students in each of their fields: Education – Aoife Finnerty, Welfare and Accommodation – Derek Daly, Communications – Aoife Ní Raghallaigh, Campaigns and Services – Fergal Dempsey along with the overall president of the union Ruán Dillon McLoughlin. These sabbatical officers sit on various committees within the University and represent the views and interests of students on these committees.
The Students Union provides many services including but not limited to the following:
- Advising and aiding students with any issues they may have with the university or those outside the University such as house landlords etc.
- Representing students – The SU runs a class representatives system whereby each class is entitled to 1-4 students (dependant on class size) democratically elected to represent them along with the SU Sabbatical Officers who are elected each year.
- Clubs and Societies - The University of Limerick boasts over seventy clubs and societies. These clubs and societies are available for joining by all students, from the Simpsons Appreciation Society to the Windsurfing club, there’s something for everyone.
- An Focal – An focal is a fortnightly newspaper published and distributed by the students union. Any students who wish to contribute to this are free to do so and can contact the sitting Communications Officer who will advise them on this. A magazine (Pulse) is also published by the SU.
- Entertainment – This would include things from the bouncing castles in Orientation Week to all the gigs in Rag Week and throughout the academic year.
- Shop – The Spar shop in the SU Courtyard is provided by the Student’s’ Union. Members of the Union sit on the Shop-Board.
- Recreation Areas – Upstairs in the SU there is a games room with pool tables and a common room with lots of comfy couches where people can bring their own food to eat at lunch or just chill out.
